PM discusses challenges facing old city of Sanaa

SANAA, Aug. 19 (Saba) - Prime Minister Dr. Abdulaziz bin Habtoor on Monday discussed with Culture Minister Abdullah al-Kebsi the current status of the historic city of Sanaa and the challenges facing it and threatening its remaining in the World Heritage List.

SANAA, Aug. 19 (Saba) – Prime Minister Dr. Abdulaziz bin Habtoor on Monday discussed with Culture Minister Abdullah al-Kebsi the current status of the historic city of Sanaa and the challenges facing it and threatening its remaining in the World Heritage List.

At the meeting, the Prime Minister ordered the formation of a team from the Ministry of Culture and the relevant authorities to make field inspection visits to the historic city of Sanaa and raised a report to the Cabinet on the urgent procedures required to preserve its unique architectural character and historical monuments.

He stressed on confronting those who deform the face of the old Sanaa and removing everything that scratches its beauty and offends its global historical position.

During the meeting, al-Kebsi noted to the existing efforts, especially the community initiatives to confront those who harm the city’s architectural character, calling for a national united effort through which various official and community efforts combine to protect the city.
