Yemen, UK discuss in cooperation talks
[19/February/2011]

SANA'A, Feb 19 (Saba) - Minister of Trade and Industry Hisham Sharaf met on Saturday with Baroness Emma Nicholson, member of the British House of Lords and the First Vice-Chairman of the European Parliaments Committee on Foreign Affairs.

They discussed Yemen-Britain cooperation, particularly in areas such as investment and trade.

Furthermore, the meeting dealt with the bilateral cooperation in promoting foreign investments in Yemen and ways to attract more foreign capitals, mainly British, into the country.

The possibility of strengthening cooperation in the field of improving the business environment in Yemen and aspects of forging the partnership between the private sectors in both countries were discussed as well.

Appreciating the British support to Yemen and welcoming any British initiatives to cooperate on improving the business atmosphere in the country, Sharaf said attracting more investments in Yemen is given priority as the government is exerting major efforts to reduce unemployment rates and poverty.

He also reviewed Yemen's efforts in improving the business environment including facilities provided to foreign investors.

Apart from this meeting, Public Health and Population Minister Abdul Karim Rasa'a met with Nicholson her accompanying delegation.

They discussed aspects of the future cooperation between the Ministry of Public Health and Population and the British AMAR International Charitable Foundation in providing medical and educational services as the Foundation said it is keen to expand its activities in the country.

Rasa'a said the ministry is ready to provide facilities to enable the British Foundation of implementing its activities well in Yemen, especially those for qualifying Yemeni medical cadres, building medical facilities and supporting the expanded immunization programme.
